All about Lifeline Pregnancy
Care Center
Our trained, non-professional,
volunteers offer a listening ear
and compassionate alternatives
to abortion as you face an
unplanned pregnancy. These
volunteers can help you explore
your options, lead you through
parenting (life skills) classes,
provide limited material aid
such as diapers, wipes,
baby/toddler clothing etc., and
provide referral phone numbers
for social services, legal aid,
medical services, housing, and
adoption. We also have
volunteers who can
compassionately, and
non-judgmentally take you
through the healing process
after an abortion, no matter how
long ago it happened. The staff
and volunteers at Lifeline are
committed to providing caring,
support, and encouragement.
Lifeline's History
In January 1989, seven
Millersburg-area women met
to discuss the possibility
of establishing a ministry
to women experiencing
unplanned pregnancies.
David’s Church in Killinger
provided start up funds and
space at the church for an
office. That fall,
volunteers were trained to
serve on the telephone
“hotline,” which went into
operation in January 1990
under the name “Lifeline”.
The next ten years were
times of growth and change.
A board of directors was
established and Lifeline
became incorporated as a
charitable organization.
Its first paid director was
hired in 1993, and a second
paid staff position,
Development Director, was
added in 1996. Life Skill’s
director was added in 1998,
when parenting, cooking,
budgeting education classes
were made available. Then
in 2000 reorganization of
staff structure took place
and out of that Lifeline now
has an Executive Director
which sees to public
relations, fund raising and
general organizational
duties and the Director of
Client Services sees to
client needs and volunteer
management.
The ministry has moved
twice, finally settling at
its current location, 403
Union Street, Millersburg,
Pennsylvania. On February
21, 2002, the building was
purchased and extensive
renovations have been
completed. In 1990 Lifeline
served 8 clients; in 2005
Lifeline served 460
clients. God has brought us
a long way since its
beginnings, and only He
knows what the future holds
for the ministry.
About the People at Lifeline
Our volunteers are a group of
varied ages, from young
mothers to those who are
great-grandmothers. All
volunteers are trained
in-house, using the training
manual from Heartbeat
International called “The
Love Approach.” All
volunteers are required to
take this training before
working with clients. No
one at the Center works in a
professional capacity. |
